Lunar moon face

Just wondering what the numbers around the lunar moon phase mean? The outer numbers range from 06 to 28 and I can adjust the setting, but I don’t understand why I would adjust the setting. It’s currently highlighted on 17 but like I mentioned I can adjust that. Many thanks

"Lunar

This watch face depicts the relationship of the date and time to the phases of the moon. Tap the watch face, then turn the Digital Crown to move ahead or back in time."
