Two separate computers, used at different times. One mouse and keyboard

Trying to figure out how to connect my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to use with my Mac Pro from work and my personal use Mac Studio. I have a kvm switch - but since they are bluetooth and Mac has “universal control/control center” I’m wondering why it’s necessary to plug them into the kvm.
