With Sonoma - Ranking the wifi networks from top preferred down to last one

Since updated to Sonoma it is not possible anymore to rank the WiFi from top preferred down to the least.

If there are 3 Access points in the room, in the past it was possible to rank i.e. AP2, AP1, AP3.

I do not find this option anymore with the new interface.

Do you know how to do it?

All you can do now with System Settings : Wi-Fi : Advanced… panel is to remove an entry from the list by clicking its ⋯⃝ symbol. Otherwise, the SSIDs are all in immutable, alphabetic order.

You may want to send direct feedback to the macOS product team about this as a feature request for restoration of drag and drop ordering. The Apple product teams do not participate here and won't see your post.

I would suggest sending something to Apple Feedback here...

This is what I sent...

In Sonoma there doesn't appear to be a GUI method to set a preferred connection order for WIFI access points as there was in previous systems. I am aware that with a lot of work you can do this with the underlying UNIX command line... but I bought a GUI driven Mac as I've done 8 times before and this function has been available in the GUI since the earliest versions of OSX and if I remember correctly, in MacOS 7, 8 and 9 before that.

Please put this functionality back. There is a solid use-case for it and a lot of people miss it and simply don't know where to ask for it back. Take a look...

To clarify the question for the Apple developers, how do we do the following in the GUI.

networksetup -listpreferredwirelessnetworks en0

networksetup -removepreferredwirelessnetwork en0 "StarBucks-guest"

networksetup -addpreferredwirelessnetworkatindex en0 "StarBucks-guest" 0 WPA2

This is an example of listing the wifi networks priority, then removing StarBucks-guest, and then re-adding it with the highest priority --> specifically the setting of the priority of the wifi network.

Where is this functionality in the GUI in MacOS SONOMA?

Thx!

Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

In my setup at home the Router has the ability to Broadcast in the 2.4, 5 and 6E gHz bands

All the SSIDs are using the same Name

One machine in the Den, has the ability to connect over all 3 of the bands.

Whichever signal the computer sees as being the Most Strong signal, it will connect to it

2 other computers, both laptops are often used in the Living Room, which is where the Router is located

They too can use all 3 bands and will connect over the 6E band which is the Strongest Signal
