It says that i removed someone from the group chat but i didn’t?

Hi,

I am in a work group chat where we get sent our schedules. I went in the group chat today and it said that i kicked someone out at 12:02am but my phone was out of battery at that time and it didn’t turn on until 12:03am where i called a friend of mine and talked for a few minutes. I did not kick out that person and i don’t know what is happening. My phone has been acting weird and i don’t know why?

  1. Is this your corporate iPhone? Then please contact the system administrator of your corporate
  2. If it is your personal device, in that case, do you have any profile installed by your corporate/organisation/enterprise/School Management?
    1. Erase the profile added by you If you have installed a profile on your own --> Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone - Apple ...
    2. Or please contact the system administrator of the organisation who provided the profile to you
  3. If you want to turn on SSL trust for that certificate, go to Settings > General > About > Certificate Trust Settings. Under "Enable full trust for root certificates," turn on trust for the certificate. Apple recommends deploying certificates via Apple Configurator or Mobile Device Management (MDM). --> Trust manually installed certificate profiles in iOS and iPadOS ...

I noticed the same thing in a family text group, where the message indicated that I removed a family member! I did not remove anyone. I called Apple Support and the person I spoke with confirmed this appears to be a recent problem. The Apple Support person also confirmed that I only have rights to add new people, but the group owner, my younger brother, is the only person who can remove people.

Honestly, it is more than a bit upsetting that an Apple error incorrectly identified me as the person who removed a family member! I opened a case with Apple for follow-up.

iPhone 15 Pro with ios 17.4.1 (latest ios version available at this time).

This appears to be a serious database error on Apple’s part, or perhaps they are turning untrained DBA’s loose on a production database!

Smartphones lack both the inherent intelligence and the capability for malicious intent. Therefore, it becomes imperative for us to pay close attention to our device settings and the manner in which we synchronize our smartphones with Mac/PC/iCloud. Additionally, we must exercise caution when sharing sensitive and valuable information with friends and family members.

Be careful when sharing the device's sensitive and valuable information with friends and family members.

Thumb Rules:

  1. Don't hand over an iPhone to kids or to a stranger without Enabling Guided Access
  2. Don't share Apple IDs
  3. Don't Jailbreak
  4. Don't share sensitive information pertaining to your device
  5. Don't give in to Phishing
  6. Don't plug in your device in Airports and Public places through third-party cables and trust the device. Beware of Juice Jacking. (Especially in India)
  7. Don't leave your iPhone unlocked and unattended in public places like offices, schools, malls, etc.

Add or remove someone from a group conversation

Anyone in a group iMessage can add or remove someone from the conversation. You can remove a person from a group iMessage that has at least three other people. You can’t add or remove people from group MMS messages or group SMS messages.

Types of group messages

The three types of group messages that you might see are: group iMessage, group MMS, and group SMS. The Messages app automatically chooses the type of group message to send based on you and your recipients' settings, network connection, and carrier plan. For example:

  • If you and your recipients are using Apple devices and iMessage is turned on, then the group message is sent as an iMessage.
  • If you send a group message to people who aren't using iMessage, then the message is sent as an MMS or SMS message.
