hide recipients in Apple Mail doesn’t work no matter what I do.

How do I send a group email and hide recipients in Apple Mail?

no matter how many times I’ve tried it always displays the private information of my students and I can’t keep having this problem.

I’ve already tried Bcc /restarting my mail boxes un installing and reinstalling. It’s toggled off so there is no reason for this issue to persist.

At this point I don’t believe the Mail application is capable of hiding emails when sending a mass email.

any new tips?? I’ve tried everything on here already with inconsistent results (50/50 results if I send emails with under 99 recipients.)

MacBook Air (2018 – 2020)

Using the Bcc field as described here works for me.

Address emails in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

In more simple terms, drag the group name to the Bcc field.

Maybe your email provider limits the number of recipients in an email.

In your post you say " It’s toggled off so there is no reason for this issue to persist." What does this mean?

What device and operating system are you using?

BCC: (Blind Carbon Copy) always displays all the email addresses to you in the BCC: field before sending.

That way, you can verify everyone included in the group.

When you actually send the email message using BCC, each recipient only sees your email address, the sender, in the 'From' field.

No other email addresses are visible to recipients in the 'To:' field, because putting every email address only in 'BCC:', the 'To:' field remains blank.

Viewing the 'Sent' messages folder in Apple Mail, you'll see a display similar to this. I've edited out Subject information and partial names for privacy.

Viewing Sent, the 'To:' field shows (No Recipients) but the 'BCC:' field displays recipient names and/or email addresses, depending upon how you have the groups organized. This makes it easy for you to verify to whom you sent the message.

I use Contacts to group the intended recipients into multiple groups of about 40, but I believe the Apple Mail limitation is 500 recipients per mail message.

I use BCC: because of privacy concerns, so message recipients cannot see any other email addresses.

I'm using macOS Monterey and Apple Mail Version 16.0 (3696.120.41.1.4) on a 2021 MacBook Pro M1Pro

I'm on 14.2.1 (23C71) and it works for me.

Just sent a message and bcc'd my wife.

I have a message in my Sent mailbox.

My wife's account has the message in the Inbox.

You need to leave the To: empty and put all addresses in Bcc: to hide addresses from all recipient's.

You might want to check what's in your ISP's mail server sent mailbox to confirm the ISP server is not doing something unexpected.

there is a setting you can change that turns off the share emails in a group/mass email.
I see it in Mail/Settings/Composing.

"When sending to a group, show all member addresses"

'The default is checked. I don't use groups so haven't tested, Have you tried unchecking this feature?

As I noted before, that setting has no effect on the way the message is sent. It only affects what you see in the recipient fields.

Bcc is what the OP needs to use, but claims it doesn’t work. I’ve never seen it not work.
