Duplicate of header rows in front of main spreadsheet in Numbers

I was getting the beachball while updating a spreadsheet. I restarted my iMac and when I reopened the spreadsheet it looks like there is a copy of the header rows and columns slightly offset from each other such that I can see a duplicate of each cel overlaying but offset. I can't get rid of just one. One copy moves with scrolling the sheet, the other is frozen in place like it should be. If I try to delete the row or column, both versions disappear. I still get the beachball whenever I make a change. I'm using Sonoma 14.2.1 and Numbers 13.2.

To confirm whether you (inadvertently) have extra tables simply go to the sheet name (tab at the top) and see if there are multiple tables listed in the dropdown when you click the v to the right of the name.

Picking from that dropdown is also an easy way to select the extra table (sometimes easier than trying to click the right "bulls-eye" concentric circles upper left).

Once you've selected the offending table from the list all it takes is hitting the 'delete' key to remove it.

In this respect Numbers very different from Excel. In Excel you're stuck with one big grid of cells in a worksheet. In Numbers you can easily have multiple, separate tables on the same sheet. That has a lot of advantages.

If you haven't done so already, be sure to check out the built-in templates at File > New in your menu to see good working examples of Numbers documents. If you've just imported Excel documents then you're missing a lot of the charm and power of Numbers and not seeing the advantage of its unique design features.
