Epson – Epson Stylus NX420 All-in-One Printer (Discontinued)

Your tag line says that you have macOS 14.1 (Sonoma).

Go to the Support tab on the Epson site. Click on the Downloads tab on the Support page. Select macOS 14.x from the pop-up menu and click on the GO button that appears.

Wait a couple of seconds for the page to refresh, then click on the "+"s besides Drivers, Utilities, and Firmware – to see what downloads Epson says are available. When I do that, the Drivers section shows

  • ICA Scanner Driver v5.8.23 for Image Capture
  • Printer Driver v12.62

I don't know whether these driver packages include both Intel code and Apple Silicon code, or just Intel code. With code that runs at system level, you need native code. You can use Rosetta 2 to run an Intel application on an Apple Silicon Mac, but not to run an Intel kernel extension on an Apple Silicon Mac.

It appears that the Epson NX420 does not support AirPrint. I don't see it on Apple's list of AirPrint-compatible printers, and Google search for "Epson Stylus NX420 AirPrint" turns up articles on various sites saying that the device does not support AirPrint.

That means you're going to be dependent upon Epson for printer drivers (see previous reply).
