I had flashlight on. Then it just froze up on me. Light is stuck on. When I touch volume up then vol down then hold the other button , the touch screen will not work so I cannot shut it off. It’s frozen up on me

You are not supposed to use the Touch Screen to shut the iPhone off when you are attempting to conduct a Forced ReStart.

TY for your reply. I believe you were correct in your instruction to hold tge 3rd button for a longer time.
apple should include that in their instructions for a restart. It changes to a screen with a slide button to shut tge phone off. When one sees this screen, their reaction is to release the button
to try to use that slider…..
but you actually need to kerp it depressed to get the phone to shut down and ho to the apple logo screen.

I finally got it to shut down. FYI I just kept repeating the steps vol up vol down then button on the other side. It took about 20 tries I think.
