Erasing iPad for new user - asking me for previous passcode

Hi

I've erased my iPad Mini 5 running iPadOS 17 to sell on eBay and when going through the set up process to check the new user can log in OK, after choosing a new passcode, it asked me for my previous passcode used to unlock the iPad.

Is this just because I signed into iCloud with my Apple ID or will it ask the new user to do this with their Apple ID as well?

I just didn't want to sell the iPad and then the new user e-mail me saying they couldn't use it.

Thanks

Paul

I have the same problem but with a different situation - child changed the passcode and now can't remember it. I'm trying to restore from backup but facing the same issue.

Apple please update your documentation online - this one is incorrect (If you forgot your iPad passcode - Apple Support) it suggests restoring from backup to reset a passcode - this does not work.

This is also really poor features from a parent/child device management perspective. Parents should be able to unlock or change passcodes when required from their Family controls.

(After restoring from backup I assumed it would be the old passcode, but it seems some data on the ipad is encrypted and wants the previous passcode)
