download catalina startup to reinstall
need Catalina.dmg to reformat iMac.
What is currently installed on the Mac, if its Catalina in the Recovery Partition then you don't need the .dmg.

What's the state of your Mac? Are in Recovery or needing to erase your Mac?

I erased it first.
Than installed needlessly Mountain Lion.
Now, I rebooted in recovery mode and am reinstalling Catalina.
