After an editing session FCPX suddenly refuse to open projects in the same library. FCPX locks and I have to force quit. Deleting preferences will fix the problem but it comes back after a while. Dont help to just restart.

Problem fixed. It was only one project file in the library that caused this phenomena. Made a new library and dragged the project to the new library. Working fine. All other projects in the original library works fine as well.
You have that nasty "cleanmymac", also known as "brickmymac".
Completely uninstall it.
You have Chrome and its evil keystone agents or daemons... you should completely uninstall - see https://chromeisbad.com - and then delete FCP and download a new copy from the App Store.
One of your drives is full. This could be a problem, especially if you are using it with FCP.
You have a lot of old stuff that surely came from previous macs. At best, it is doing nothing, at worst it could cause crashes...CUDA, flip4mac.... soundflower. Some of these have not worked in almost a decade.
There is WD software. Third party driver or other software from drive manufacturers is not needed and often causes problems.
You may have trashed Chrome, but you left the keystone things behind. They run in the background all the time, and often gobble up resources for no apparent reason - including hogging the systemvideotoolbox and hurting FCP badly.

Q1:Is the project updated from an older version?
Q2:Can I open it by copying the contents to a new project or by loading the XML?
Thanks I will look through your tips. But : As far as I know I don't have Chrome installed. Had it some years ago and it was a disaster. The drive that seems to be full is the Time Machine backup.
