"Convert Image" stopped working

The option "convert image" was working just fine, and suddenly it stopped working.

When I click on it nothing happens, no error, no popups, nothing... As if it's not there.

A fellow community member posted about the solution turning on "siriactiond" in the Full Disk Access but it's not there.

How can I fix this issue?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 14.2

The Convert Image QA will only appear on the Quick Action sub-menu only if you have an image selected in the Finder.

However, when you select an unsupported camera's jpg image in the Finder and attempt the Convert Image QA, nothing happens — as you describe. If you select the same camera RAW image for that camera (e.g. Nikon Z8), the Convert Image panel will appear, but your tip off is that the Image Size selector shows (Zero KB) and any resulting conversion is junk. Siri has nothing to do with this issue.

I also have this issue and have had for months since I upgraded. But the replies on this are absolutely lost on me. My iPhone drops images to my iMac as HEIC. I used to just convert these to jpegs, now I can't. Need a quick and easy solution. Why is apple making everything more and more difficult these days.

Perhaps the easiest solution for you then is to make it so the images are automatically converted to JPEG when transferring to the Mac.

You can choose that in your iPhone settings->Photos->transfer to mac or pc, choose Automatic instead of Keep Originals (*)

(*) I am on iOS 15.*, so the wording and location of this may be slightly different in iOS 17, but I think the same principle still applies.

In Safari 17.2.1, when I visit the DP Review Z8 review page and select the Taylor Swift image, it makes no difference if I click the JPEG version (opens in the browser window and right-click to Download), or I right-click on the JPEG link and choose Donwload. In either case, Convert Image is silent.

Also, just tested Convert Image QA with the Fujifilm X-S20 using both JPG and RAW images per the first paragraph download options. Convert Image was silent again.

Here is a link to the above User Convert Image that when you select it, a prompt will ask you if you want to open it in the Shortcuts app. Do so, and save it. Should be zero coding involved. Then quit Shortcuts.

Now, right-click on your .heic image and choose Quick Actions > User Convert Image. The resulting JPG image will bear the same name as your .heic and be written in the same location.

This Shortcut will only be useable on macOS Monterey or newer.

It still imports the pictures as .HEIC

I see now, this is probably because the mac can easily handle this format.

Probably if you were transfering to a pc it would yield a jpeg.

You are thus left with two options:

1) Convert on the mac - for me, it works just fine: select, control-click and from Quick Actions choose Convert to JPEG.

2) Make it so your iPhone saves as jpeg in the first place. In Settings->Camera, choose "Most Compatible" and then your iPhone will save the photos you take in jpeg format.

So I checked the gf's 2017 21.5" non-retina iMac running Ventura. It also converts the images. However, there is a delay before the converting window shows up. So that's three different Macs running three different versions of macOS and they all convert the images using Quick Actions.

p.s. It's weird looking at a non-Retina screen when you aren't used to it.
