Xcode 14.3 does not remember recent files/projects under Sonoma 14.2.1

I need to run Xcode 14 in Sonoma because Xcode 15 will not compile for older SDKs. I enabled Xcode 14 in Sonoma using the method described here.

Recent files are no longer listed (as they were in Ventura) when I press the dock icon, my preferred way to open projects. In Xcode's File > Open Recent menu, there is a list of blank items where the files should be, and when I click on one, I get the this dialog informing me that the document (null) could not be opened because it does not exist.

Xcode documents are listed in the system's Recent Files menu, but that's only marginally helpful, and only for the short time they scroll off the list.

Is there anything I can do to restore the recent file list in the dock icon?

Thanks -- Rick
