To clarify: Only the carrier the device is locked to can unlock it for use on other carriers.

Some carriers charge a fee for unlocking. Many do not.

In most cases, a carrier will NOT unlock the device unless you are a current or former customer in good standing.

Some will not unlock a device that is not currently active on their network.

If you bought a used phone that is carrier locked, and you are not a customer of the carrier it is locked to, it’s recommended you return the device for a refund and buy one you can use.

The odds of you being able to get it legitimately unlocked are low.
