How to hook up a CD Player to my Mac Book Air

How do I get my Apple CD player to be recognized by my Mac Book Air?? It is plugged in to the USB C port, and I have restarted my Mac Book, and nothing seems to work!!

Is there a disc in the drive?

The Mac will not show the drive anywhere unless there is a valid disc it can read and understand inside the drive.


Also make sure Optical Drives are set to be shown in the side bar in Finder and on the Desktop by going to the Finder Menu ➜ Settings, and make sure In General, CDs, DVDs, and iPods is checked, and under SideBar, CD's DVD's and iOS devices is checked.
