Would deleting a corrupted word doc save it?

I have a problem with the word docs on my ipad. basically, my ipad and phoneare synced and for the last while i wasn’t using my ipad because of school. I updated my phone to ios 17 and thought everything was good unntil i checked my files to see pretty much all of the files that i’ve saved here are gone. They weren’t saved on the cloud, only on the ipad because i only wanted them there. i realised quickly what happened and did a few things to help get them back which didn’t work because i forgot i only saved them on the ipad.

I found them in the recents tab on the word trying to get into them and save them only for them to not open with a notification tab saying that something went wrong. Despite not being on the files, they do show up when i search for them.

After downloading and buying software to uncorrupot them and not being given straightforward advice that could actuallyu help, i’ve kind of given up. I lossing my patience and sanity trying to figure out the problem so it probs wouldn’t hurt to ask if delteing one document would help get the rest back. Any advice?

iPad Air, iOS 12
