'a newer version of this file is available on the server' error message

About Laptop

  • 2022 Macbook Pro
  • Chip: M2
  • Memor: 24GB
  • macOS Sonoma (14.1.2)

Background

  • I'm limited to one external display with the current chip.
  • I've bought a two different Plugable docks to get around this issue. My current dock is the Plugable UD-6950Z.
  • Everytime I go through the setup and download the driver, I get an error message on the Destination Select page: DisplayLink Manager can't be installed on this disk. A new version is already installed.
    • It also shows the Macintosh HD drive with 882.85GB available and 994.66GB total.
  • Because it says it's already installed, I've tried just connecting the two external displays at the same time to the dock and the dock with the laptop: no success.
  • I've tried connecting each external display individually to the dock and the dock to the laptop: no success.
  • I've tried connecting each external display individually to the laptop: success both times.

Question

  • What am I missing? What else do I need to do?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 14.1
