How to find significant locations for the day in iPhone?

I can’t seem to see my significant locations for the day.

I'm unsure if you found an answer to this; however, I have just been in contact with Apple with the same question.

Through my iCloud account, I had requested to download my Maps data. Even though I could see that I had Significant Locations in my privacy settings turned on and 40+ entries were logged, my request came back stating that no data was available.

I messaged Apple Live Chat and sent some screenshots to explain what I was talking about. As the Customer Support Agent was unable to provide an answer, they arranged a phone call with a higher-up to look into it. I was immediately given a call, and the Apple Support Manager was also unsure, so she asked if she could send the query to the Tech Team. As it was a Friday, she asked if it would be okay to wait until today (Tuesday, 28th May 2024) to get back to me, just to give the team some time to look into it.

The genuinely lovely Apple Support Manager (Giselle/Gizelle) I spoke with called me back today and explained that, due to security and privacy concerns, this information is end-to-end encrypted; that is, Apple does not store this information, and it is, therefore, inaccessible to both Apple and the consumer/individual.

The answer given by SravanKrA is correct and was included in the explanation I received in that it provides more personalised suggestions, e.g., Maps and Photos, whilst not storing the actual location data.

Whilst this answer isn't a solution, I was told I could send feedback about this feature and that if enough people provide similar feedback, it may be included in a future update.

I'm not a software engineer, so I have no idea how it would necessarily work, but a potential direction (no pun intended)/solution for those wanting access to their Significant Locations may be along the lines of:

  • If the user enables Significant Locations, they can also choose/agree to have this data saved to their iCloud account (e.g., included in Maps data) under "Significant Location Summary Records."
    • It should be an opt-in function rather than automatically enabled.

  • If enabled, the user has full access to either the (1) actual or (2) estimated locations, with timestamps, and these records are available for or deleted after a selected amount of time, with the user also able to turn the feature off at any time.
    • Similar to "Keep Messages [for] 30 Days, 1 Year, Forever."

  • [I believe that Google Maps allows users to see a "Timeline" of their routes and trips based on their Location History, which can also be edited. This would be a viable solution, and Apple would be able to use a similar method to create this for their users, especially as the "recent" option in Apple Maps is fairly useless.]

Hopefully, that answers why you are unable to view your Significant Locations and perhaps an outline of what feedback you might submit!

🌀🫶Thank you! And, YES! But how do I access this encrypted data? Like I can go on my iPad and where would I go to see where my phone has been all day? They’re both signed into the same iCloud but I don’t bring my iPad with me daily so I’m thinking the data has to be backed up to the iCloud at some point. Can I find it somewhere in the backup data? I just want something that is not google maps.🚫 I want something that I can’t edit so easily! Any ideas? I have an Apple watch⌚️, an –1iPad Pro📱, (2009 stopped updating at 16)and an iPhone 11. 🤳🏻

🦋THANKS IN ADVANCE🦋
