Set up AOL email account in Mail Ver. 14, Big Sur 11.7

Had two email boxes set up connected to two AOL emails (actually at verizon.net). Both IMAP. One stopped connecting. After some tries I deleted it and started from scratch.

1 - Add account

2 - select AOL

3 - enter email, password

4 - will not connect, check account info, says POP, 0 messages

5 - right-click mailbox to edit account, says "offline"

The other AOL-linked mailbox says IMAP and works fine

How can I get it to work?

Unable to add my AOL account to Apple Mail. I have used Apple Mail on my 2007 iMac (OS 10.11.6) for several years but a recent issue requiring me to replace the logicboard left Apple Mail asking for my password. I am one of the many who migrated my Verizon mail to AOL and had no real issues afterward. I have followed the Apple and AOL helps to the letter but Mail will simply not accept my password in order to add the AOL account to Apple Mail. I have been using the browser for access to my AOL account but Apple Mail is better suited to my needs. Email on Macbook Air I can access an email account on my iMac but not on my Macbook. The Macbook only allows imap and on my iMac it is a POP account. I try to change it to POP to match iMac but there is no option for this. It will not accept my password on the imap account. Is this an OS problem.

Email Account (POP/IMAP) I have a third POP Account that used to work fine on my Apple Mail but since Microsoft have stopped supporting Third Party POP/IMAP Email Accounts I can no longer use Apple Mail as my Email Platform. I understand that Microsoft still support Google and Yahoo Mail platforms but nit other Third Party Mail Programs. My question here are Apple going to resolve this issue or am I destined to have to use Webmail from now on or change all my email accounts onto an Exchange Server so that I can continue to use my Apple Mail.
