I just bought my iphone Xr last december 2023 and now, upon checking its battery health it is just 89%, where in fact this is not used as always because i have a back up phone for my other activities

The XR was discontinued in September 2021, so your phone is at least 3+ years old and as much as 5 depending on when it was placed into service.
But, let's say that the phone is 3 years old. A Battery Health reading of 89% would be really excellent for a 3 year old phone. Most 3 year old phones would be down to 80% or less.
You should be very happy.
Finally, Battery Health always declines. No way to avoid that other than replacing the battery. Even if you replace the battery, it will start to decline again.

Doesn’t sound like your iPhone XR was truly new if the battery health is that low in one month. I believe the XR was discontinued in 2021 so I’m not sure if there are many places you can still find a new one versus refurbished or “renewed”. Because the battery is above the 80% threshold it wouldn’t be something that would be replaced right now m
