Apple Car Play intermittently disconnects when I try to start up a podcast

Since purchasing my Volvo XC40 I have had trouble with Apple Car Play and podcasts and it is getting worse. It will work fine while driving to a store. Then when I get back into the car, Car Play starts up and looks like it will start playing my podcast again but then it switches to another podcast and the disconnects. It may work 4 times and then stop working until I turn off the car and open the door to restart the car's media player. I thought it was because of my USB cable but I went directly to the Apple Store to purchase an Apple cable and if anything, it's gotten worse since then. I've tested this a bit, maps work, voice to text works, it's just streaming podcasts or audio books which causes it to disconnect. I haven't seen this reported anywhere else. Any ideas?

My 2019 XC60 does the exact same thing. Everything works fine on CarPlay except occasionally (every four trips or so) when starting a podcast the same thing happens - switches to another podcast then disconnects. When it starts to malfunction, disconnecting the phone and reconnecting often doesn't work, same for rebooting the iPhone. It does seem to help a bit if I remember to pause the podcast before disconnecting the phone.

I have the same problem. iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 17.4.1. Currently using an Anker brand USB-C cable but in the past have used Apple brand cables with similar results. In addition, my wife plugged her phone in just to charge on the other port and any time my phone disconnected, hers also stopped charging.

That being said, I had the same problem in a Subaru Outback with other iPhones, so I am thinking it is less an issue with the car or the phone and more something with CarPlay.

Just got a 22 XC40. My iPod Classic 8OG worked fine for a while and now does the same intermittent stop. Plug unplug gets it back but I can't figure out the why either.
