It should work, but may be slow depending on exactly what kind of power delivery it offers.

If its the small cube like USB charger, then it probably will be to slow to charge the iPad, and may not charge it when its turned on and being used. But it won't cause any issue or damage otherwise.

The 9th Generation iPad should have come with its own 20 watt charger, which you can also use with the iPhone and iPad mini. Its recommended you use this charger or one of similar wattage for the best charging experience.

Thanks for your reply. The reason I have raised this query is that someone is selling a 9th Gen iPad on Ebay and it doesn't come with charger. Now you say there is a special charger for this iPad which makes me more uncertain. I will have to check how much it would cost to pick one of these up. Thanks again for your time.

Its not a special charger. Its just a standard 20 watt charger. It just provides more power than the 5 watt charger. There are many options outside of Apple for compatible ones.

The Apple one costs $19.99

There are other options form other manufacturers like Anker, Ugreen, Mophie, Belkin etc... for varying prices.

If you have a USB charger for an Android or other third party device, you can probably use that just fine too.
