Yes, DisplayPort offers widescreen resolutions and higher refresh rates than HDMI.

HDMI was invented to help us, it was invented to protect content providers & has several drawbacks.

The short 1.4 8K cable should be sufficient given the spec's of the Mac mini and Display.

However it never hurts to purchase the better cable.
