I live in France so is it impossible for me to access the US store front to use a gift card?

Hello , I have been given a gift card from a family member that he bought from the U.S when he was on a trip . The problem is I live in France and apparently it is impossible for me to use it . When I go to my Apple Store they tell me that I have to redeem my gift card in the us store front .

Is there a way to solve that problem ?Thank you
