When I connect the iPad to the MacBook to update it says that this version of iPad software (12.5.7) is the correct version. But when I try to download apps it says I need to update my iOS to the newest iOS how do I fix this or update my iPad

An unit running 12.5.7 isn't capable of 13 or above; for an iPad Air, it's a first generation model. Try downloading the applications to a newer unit on the same Apple ID first.

Thanks for your help. The only other device I have is the MacBook that it’s connected to. And the MacBook doesn’t have the apps available in the App Store
