iPhone 15 pro max zooming

am told that the 5x zoom facility on the 15 pro max can be combined with the 2x crop facility. How do i do that?

Why does iPhone 15 Pro Max's native camera app use main lens for 5x zoom instead of 120mm lens? When I’m using the native camera app of my iPhone 15 pro max and if I use the 5x in any mode (photo, portrait or video) it is not using the 120mm lens instead it is just using the main lens. Does the 5x work by cropping the main lens? Just open the native camera app and click on the 5x and cover the main lens and it goes blank. If you cover the 120 mm lens it doesn’t get blank. is iphone 16 pro max supposed to be 3x zoom on video or 5x? Mine is showing 3 but my friend has 5 ans idk how to change it i want to be able to make my video zoom 5x like my friends. I got the 16 pro max and she has the regular 16 pro. all our settings look the same too please help.
