Excel->Page Layout->Gridlines and make sure View Gridlines is checked.

Thank you! That is exactly what needed to be done! Once I moved
the Display Contrast to Normal, the grid lines appeared.
Go to Apple > System Settings > Accessibility > Display
turn off/untick Increase contrast and set the Display contrast: slider to Normal....
As already noted be sure gridlines is checked to show in the top menu
