I have a password question for all my devices: I have a iPhone, iPad,& MacBook Air, all on AOL.

I have a password for each device, but some are working for passwords, and others are not. Is this issue about my Apple devices, or AOL? Please provide advice. Thanks much!

MacBook Air 11″, macOS 10.15

That can be a hard one to diagnose in this user-to-user text setting. We will probably end up asking you a lot more questions to establish a base of knowledge to work this issue here.

Are the devices asking for your Apple ID password or an admin password? Very different.

BTW, we are all other end users, not Apple. Apple support will not see your question here. If you were looking for official Apple support: Official Apple Support

Most reports like yours are due to some people not understanding how Apple ID works. You should have ONE Apple ID that:

a) uniquely identifies you

b) allows all you Apple devices to communicate. Think of it as "One ring to rule them all." (apologies to Tolkien)

When people set up a separate Apple ID for each device, none know the other devices exists.

So, as a start, do you have one Apple ID or several?

Also please post the models of the affected devices and the operating systems they are running. Very important to getting help in this setting where we can neither see nor touch your devices.

Hi Allan, I so appreciate your reply. Since I wrote my request, I have been in contact with Apple today for several hours, very very helpful. I have learned, as you have noted, that Apple ID needs to be of only one for all devices. I have much more to learn, but today was amazing. My emails had been locked out before this happened, and after the help from Apple, a flood of emails, etc., arrived. I am exhausted for now, but will provide other thoughts in the future. Again, thank you SO MUCH!

Wendy
