Mac Mini display to use with photography recommendation

Hello, everyone. I own an iMac 27" late 2015. I would like to upgrade to Mac Mini M2.

Excluding the Apple monitor which costs too much, What monitor could I pair with the machine taking into account that my use is mainly for post producing photography? I read that matching a monitor to Apple is a problem for PPI which should be 110 or 220 to avoid scaling and straining the machine. I'm confused.

Thanks to anyone who would like to help me out.

If you want to go relatively inexpensive but have a good display for photography, you may want to check out the LG 4K display offerings.

I currently use an LG 27UP600 "no frills" 4K display and it works very well for me. It covers 99% sRGB and 95% DCI-P3 color gamuts out of the box and can be improved with calibration. It is also supports HDR400 mode, which I found in photographic use to be to not be important (actually detrimental in my opinion) but if you want to watch any movies in HDR it is pretty darn good.

LG has a "three tier" model system which all use the same display panel and only differ in added bells and whistles with things like adjustability up to having USB ports and powering via USB-C for laptops.

Currently depending on sales you can get one from under $300 to $500 on the high end.

Also something to note on LG displays, in there model numbering system the first two numbers are display size, the first letter refers to resolution or gaming, the second letter is the model year (P is a later model year than N) and the last three is the "frills" level.

If you require greater color precision then you will need to fork out more for a higher end display.

Most monitors should work without a glitch!

I personally use 3 Samsung monitors on a mac mini 2018 and never felt it was straining the machine. It's an intel-based machine, which also tends to heat for many other reasons. But I have a M1 and M2 MBP and find these are much less prone to heat doing nothing.

As you're doing photo (I'm into audio), you may want to shed in a few hundreds $$ more as suggested by woodmeister50 here, as color calibration is more critical than for people doing audio or typical office work.
