iwatch se (gen2) incompatible with ihpone x

I have just purchased an apple iwatch SE (gen2) and I can't connect it to me iphone x.

It says the ios needs to 17. My wife has an iphone 12 and her watch works at iso 16.6.

Is the only way to make this work buying a new iphone!!

Why won't my Apple Watch SE pair with my iPhone 8? iWatch SE 2nd generation is incompatible with iphone 8 if the watch software has been updated. I just bought iWatch SE 2nd generation and it cannot be paired with the iphone 8 I received for Christmas contrary to what Apple support confirmed me before my purchase. Does one of you faced the same issue and been reimbursed by Apple ? Or Does Apple proceed with an exchange ? [Edited by Moderator]

whatchOS 10 requires a phone with ios17

whatchOS 9 requires a phone with ios 16

if your watch is running watchOS10 there is no way to use it with your phone if not upgraded to ios17
