Search in Finder is totally broken, it will only search "This Mac" but not the current folder At some point my search broke on macOS 13.x. I was hoping upgrading to macOS 14.x would fix it but it didn't. Whenever I search it defaults to "This Mac" (I wish it would default to current folder and sub-folders but that's a different issue). If I search This Mac I get the results I would expect but if I try to search only the current folder I get no results. For example, let's say I have a folder open called "Docs" and there is a file in docs called resume.pdf. If I type resume into search and select "name" Name Contains "resume" it will find everything that contains Resume on my mac but if I select Search "Docs" it finds nothing. This is the same after rebooting, any folder, any file name, it doesn't matter. How can I fix this?

Why does a Finder earch bring up everything Okay I'm in the Finder and I want to search for everything with the word (apple). I'm looking for a specific Folder. What I see is a list of almost everything on my iMac. I tried the old boolean search if I remember was to use "-" on both ends but that doesn't seem to work. How can I be more specific in my search term? See the photo Thanks Allen

Why is my file search not returning results anymore? Searching for a document in my files by a keyword is not working. For examples, I have a file called Recipes for clients and I go in searching for quinoa recipes to send to a client. Maybe one will come up but usually nothing, and that also includes searching on the mac not just in the file. What happened? It used to work just fine. The only thing I know that happened is we had storms and the lights flickered a couple of times. So of course I had to restart the computer, but that's not unusual. Any ideas because I'm really stumped and I don't have time to go through every document I have to find what I need to send to a client. Help!! [Re-Titled by Moderator]

I am assuming you are using Finder to search for files. If you are and you are not having success please review: Narrow your search results on Mac - Apple Support

Another method of finding files (and I prefer it) is to use the FindAnyFile app. You can use the free version if you want or you can also donate to support it too.
