External Hard drives constantly spins up and shuts down

I have a new Mac Studio M2 running Sonoma 14.1.2. I use it for Photoshop and Lightroom photo editing. I have a raid setup using two Seagate 8TB external drives and use a Western Digital Red drive only as a secondary backup. I find the drives spin up and shut down constantly. No matter which hard drive I am using. It is nearly impossible to use Lightroom or Photoshop because I get the spinning beachball and have to eject the drives to use my Mac Studio to continue process the image I am working on. It is a nightmare since I have upgraded to the new Mac computer. Does anyone know why my external hard drive would act this way, and know a way to fix the problem. I hate to think Apple wants to push everyone to their cloud storage by making their lives miserable with hard drives that keep spinning up and shutting off.
