Lengthening fade to black in iMovie on Mac

https://youtu.be/C8oltWF6QQU

So, I'm trying to lengthen the fade to black in iMovie 10.4, on a M2 MBP 14". The fade to black in Settings is a quick simple thing that doesn't do what I want, so I'm using the Fade to Black Transition at the end. I just want a slower fade out. I go to precision controls, but no matter what I do, the fade out is pretty much the same, and the remaining time that I add is just a longer blackout. It seems strange that there are controls for precisely editing the fade to black, yet they don't seem to do anything when you extend it. It's very weird. I took a short video where it clearly shows the fade really quick, and not following the fade line I stretched out at all. What's the fade line for then?

Hi,

Double-clicking on the Fade to Black transition, and increasing its duration in the pop up box, should lengthen the fade.

In any event, you can put your clip in the upper timeline over a black background. When you place your cursor on the clip, fade handles will appear at the upper corners. You can slide the handle to create as long a fade as you want. Sliding one handle will also move the handle at the other end of the clip, thus imparting fades at the beginning and end. To make the sliders act independently of each other, hold down the Option key while moving the slider.
