Once you have used the HP Smart software to allow the printer to join your Wifi network, then go to your Mac settings and remove the printer and add it back in using the AirPrint/Bonjour option instead of the HP Print Driver.

Is your iMac still running macOS Catalina? Have you check the HP Support site to see if there are any updated printer drivers that support this version of macOS?
