I really have a lot of trouble understanding that these HomePods should be easy to set up. The HomePod mini went just fine, but the big ones, no, it didn't go well here. Firstly, I got them installed, and was asked when installing the 2nd unit about having these as a pair in stereo. But in the Home app they were separate, even though I tried to connect them during the settings on both devices. In addition, both have to configure for almost 14 days. When resetting to reinstall, I got the one, which is now also configuring.... for hours, the other unit is completely dead.

On the dead one you can try this:

Unplug for over 24 hrs, plug back in and do the hard reset: I would have it plugged back in for about 30 mins before proceeding with the next steps where you begin by unplugging.

  1. Unplug HomePod or unplug the power adapter for HomePod mini, wait 10 seconds, then plug HomePod back in.
  2. Wait 10 seconds, then touch and hold your finger to the top of HomePod.
  3. The white spinning light will turn red. Keep your finger down.
  4. Siri will say that your HomePod is about to reset. When you hear three beeps, you can lift your finger.

After you reset HomePod, you can set up HomePod again.

If you get stuck configuring during set up, do this first:

  • Reboot your wifi before beginning, allowing up to 10 mins for wifi connection to be established.
  • Reset network settings on your iPhone :

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings. If you're using iOS or iPadOS 14 or earlier, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

make sure wifi has be rejoined on iPhone before proceeding with the set up. Then try setting up but stereo pair it after it’s set up.

Good luck!
