What VPN does Apple recommend for its devices (iPad, iPhone, MacBook Pro)? Does Apple have it's own VPN available for download?

I do not represent Apple, but I recommend to NOT install any:

  • Antivirus
  • Cleaners
  • Optimizers
  • VPN

Your system is locked in a read only partition on the hard disk and cannot be changed by any third party software. There are no known viruses that are able to infect the system. In addition Apple uses XProtect that is built into the OS for security and is automatically updated. Many of the categories of software previously mentioned only causes conflicts affecting the normal operation of your system.

As for keeping yourself safe, the single most important thing you can do is keep your Apple ID password safe by not following for those annoying phishing scams. Also do not enter someone else's Apple ID into your computer unless you know them. In addition, when browsing websites do not allow Notifications or Pop-Up Windows from the website unless you really need them. Some sites will send fake notifications that claim your Mac has a virus if you allow them to send notifications.

There is no Apple provided VPN. There are only 2 reasons to use a VPN, so make sure it meets one of these cases:

  • To provide remote administration to company networks
  • To provide outside access to internet in restricted countries

Many companies are marketing VPN as a security solution to protect your data. That is far from the truth as all of your search requests and data provided on the websites are sent to the VPN company. Many of those companies sell your data to advertisers for profit. Some of them even redirect your browsing to sites that claim you have a virus and offer to do a fake scan of your computer that only installs malware.

Apple does not recommend the use of a VPN.

Apple does not have a VPN of its own.

Apple devices have the option of configuring a VPN directly on them. No app is necessary.

Apple does not recommend the use of any third party security apps. Apple's operating systems have all the security they need built in.
