How to stop annoying password suggestion and default to "choose my own password"

Recent MacOS updates have resulted in a very annoying behavior -- when I am prompted to set a new password in Safari, MacOS attempts to insert its own suggestion. It can take several clicks, click-holds, or option-clicks to get a choice to not use MacOS' suggestion but to choose my own password.

Anyone have an idea of how to stop this? Or default to setting my own password? I could not find such an option in Settings. Thanks
