MacOS Calendar using Exchange treats distribution list invitations differently than direct invitations
I have been using Calendar exchange integration for several years. This problem started occurring (IIRC) with Ventura, and persists to Sonoma.
Past (expected) behavior:
Meeting invitations that are sent to a distribution list I am a member of (read, they are sent to me, but my email is not listed in the attendees) are treated the same as other meeting invitations. Invitations appear in the inbox panel, with an option to respond with accept, maybe, or decline. Clicking one of those options will send a response to the meeting organizer and update the exchange calendar accordingly.
Current behavior:
Meeting invitations that are sent to a distribution list I am a member of appear in the inbox panel, but there is only an "Ok" button to dismiss the invitation, there is no option to respond with accept, maybe, or decline. Clicking "Ok" does not respond to the invitation, nor does it update the Exchange calendar. (This is evidenced when checking the calendar in Outlook – the meeting will appear "grayed out" indicating that no response has been sent yet.)
I have rebuilt my calendar numerous times since the problem first occurred (occasionally things get out-of-sync, which is fixed by toggling the calendar switch off and back on in Internet Accounts prefpane), did several system updates (currently running 14.2.1), but the problem always persists.
This is definitely an Apple bug, not a Microsoft bug – the problem started with an Apple system update, and the problem never happened to Outlook for Mac.
Also noteworthy, this problem does not occur in Calendar for iOS – on iOS the behavior is correct. (Though I have found another bug that effects iOS Calendar / Exchange integration.)
