Will the 2024 iMac M3 8GB RAM/512GB work as good as my 2023 Macbook Pro M2 16GB RAM/512 GB?

Hey guys,

I want to purchase a 2024 iMac for a home office. The only one currently in stock in the 2024 iMac 8GB RAM/512 GB with the M3 chip.

I currently have a 2023 Macbook Pro 16GB RAM/512 GB with the M2 chip. I love the performance on this.

If I purchase the iMac, will I notice any difference in performance? I just worry the 8GB of RAM compared to the 16GB of RAM will make a difference but I know little about these things.

I use my laptop strictly for web browsing and work (basic emails, documentation, etc), but I want to use this iMac for both work and also music editing/video editing potentially down the line.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 14.2

You will want to bump the RAM on the new iMac up from 8GB to a minimum of 16GB of you wish to use it for media production. In fact, I would recommend more than 16. A good rule of thumb is to buy more than you think you need now, as the Apple silicon Macs cannot be upgraded after the purchase.
