Any good alternative to Tuxera NTFS for Mac? Write speed is too slow

Hello Mac Community,

I need to write a NTFS drive frequently on Mac and currently test out the Tuxera NTFS for Mac in trial. But I'm experiencing significantly slow write speed. This is impacting my workflow, and I'm in search of a more efficient alternative. Ideally, I'm looking for a solution that offers better performance, specifically in terms of write speed.

If you've switched fromTuxera NTFS to another NTFS for Mac program and noticed a performance improvement, I would love to hear about your experience.

How about NTFS-3G? As a free and open-source NTFS driver that provides read/write access to NTFS drives on Mac. It can be downloaded from FUSE for macOS. While it may not be as fast as paid software, it still offers good performance and reliability.

Add 2 more software:

1: Mounty for NTFS fills this gap by providing a simple and free solution to enable write access to NTFS drives on macOS. It does this by leveraging the low-level functionality of macOS to bypass the native read-only limitation.

When you install Mounty for NTFS and connect an NTFS-formatted drive to your macOS system, the application automatically detects the drive and provides an option to mount it as read-write. This allows you to freely create, modify, or delete files and folders on NTFS drives.

2: SYSGeeker NTFS for Mac facilitates read-write access to NTFS volumes on macOS, offering an easy-to-use GUI, once the NTFS partition is mounted, it behaves like a native Mac partition, enabling users to perform various tasks such as writing, editing, copying, moving, and deleting files without any data loss or corruption. The software is compatible with Intel-based Mac devices, including those with the latest M1 chipsets, and supports MacOS versions from Sierra to Monterey. Notably, it is a stand-alone software and does not require any additional drivers.

NTFS is a file system developed by Microsoft for Windows. And macOS doesn't natively support writing to NTFS drives. While it can read NTFS-formatted drives, writing requires third-party drivers or software. There are inherent differences in how NTFS and macOS's native file systems (like APFS or HFS+) process file operations.

In addition, the quality and efficiency of third-party NTFS drivers can vary significantly. Some may not be well-optimized for macOS Sonoma and why that is why the writing speed is too slow.

To improve NTFS write speeds on a Mac, you might consider using more reputable or updated NTFS drivers or, if possible, using file systems that are natively supported by both Windows and macOS, such as exFAT for file sharing between the two operating systems.

Mit OS 14.4.1 kann man mit

  • Paragon NTFS for Mac (gilt auch für iBoysoft NTFS for Mac)

I have used Paragon but I have been having issues with it lately.
Sometimes I move files to the drive, no errors and everything looks fine but an audio file will be corrupted.
Recently, I got an error 42 deleting a file. The file deleted but it acted like it didn't.

Are these common issues with NTFS?

They are common issues when trying to use any non-native, non-local filesystem on macOS. Basically everything except for the startup volume and directly connected external drives using USB or Thunderbolt. Anything else is hit-or-miss.
