Finder Search returning no results when searching current folder

When I run a search in a Finder window, it returns no results when I select the option to scope the search to just the current folder.

This happens regardless of whether I choose Filenames or Content in the search field.

When I change the search scope to “This Mac,” I do get results, including those from the current folder.

I've tried a number of fixes, including booting into Safe Mode to see if the problem persists (it does) and manually rebuilding the Spotlight index via terminal. (Those methods are detailed in this thread.)

Not sure if there are other possible fixes but obviously this is something I'd very much like to fix. Thanks for any advice!

I'm running Sonoma 14.2.1.

Mac mini, macOS 14.2

Thanks @Barney-15E. I tried that but ran into problems when running this command:

rm -R .Spotlight-V100

First I got an error saying “Operation not permitted.” After Googling I learned that I needed to set the Terminal to have Full Disk Access in settings. But after I did that and ran the command again, I got an error “Permission denied.”

Any tips on how to get past that?
