Google Meet audio issues after Sonoma

Using Google Meet regularly on Chrome for 2 years without issue but since upgrading to Sonoma (now on 14.2.1) I cannot hear the other participants in the Meet although they can hear me. The others are using a variety of devices to connect to the Meet and they can all hear each other - it's just me who can't and I'm the host. My input and output mic settings show sound bars moving but I can't hear the other people. Chrome is up to date and so is my Macbook Pro. I have borrowed another older Macbook which has not been upgraded to Sonoma and the Google Meet audio works perfectly. I am perplexed and need to resolve this ASAP.
