My MacBook currently as macOS Big Sur Version 11.7.10 and will not let me update it to a later version than that. I need to download Microsoft Powerpoint from my 365 account but it is not letting me because the laptop system is not up to date.

What you need is an OS upgrade to a newer OS, not an update. If you computer is at its end of upgrades then you will have to use an alternative app. Incidentally, Apple provides a free alternative as part of its operating system. It is the Keynote app.
