Seems it depends on your type of vehicle whether you can use bluetooth, or if you need to use USB.
You car's manual may have particular instructions you can follow.
If you haven't already done so: Updating your iPhone's iOS to the latest version is often a good beginning:
About iOS 17 Updates - Apple Support says iOS 17.2.1 is the latest version.
CarPlay is available on selected cars.
