Using Apple Sidecar with wired connection to iPad Pro

I have been trying to connect sidecar with a wired cable from my Macbook pro to my iPad Pro. All I am getting is the notification that the wifi on my laptop is not on BUT I am using a wired connection and both devices trust each other. Just finished updating to macOS Sonoma and my iPad is fully up to date. The aggravating part is that the dual display works just fine on my old iPad Pro (from 2016-2017). The only other issue I can think of is that I haven't erased the old iPad. I'm just trying to do the connection wired but it also refuses to work wired. Do I need to activate cellular data onto the new iPad or just erase the old one? If there's any way for me to troubleshoot this I'd appreciate it. I've already tried resetting the location and privacy to redo the trust between devices and I'm just frustrated at this point.

iPad Pro, iPadOS 17
