You could take a screenshot of the important imessage:
Eg: For iPhone: Take a screenshot on iPhone - Apple Support
For iPad: Take a screenshot - Apple Support
For Mac: Take a screenshot - Apple Support
Another option is to "copy" the message and "paste" into a blank file, document, or email, etc. ready to "save".
(Eg: If you use a Mac ... you can "paste" into a Text-edit file and choose File > export as PDF if you wish.
