Moving Final Cut Pro to New Mac

Hello. I am in the process of trying to move Final Cut Pro X software from my MacBook Air 13" 2017 with MacOS High Sierra to a MacBook Pro 2019 with MacOS Sonoma 14.2.1. I moved the Final Cut Pro by copy and pasting from my external hard drive. The current version of FCPX is not compatible with my new computer's operating system. I followed the steps to update the FCPX in the Apple Store. It seemed as though it was going to work but then a message popped up saying that it was unable to install at this time. I'm not going to have to re-purchase the software on my new computer am I? I think the problem resides in the fact that the operating systems are different. I even tried to update the operating system to MacOS Sonoma on my older Mac but was unable to do so

Any thoughts on this will be much appreciated

Trash the old version of FCP that you pour on the new computer. As Ian said, use your Purchased page to download a new updated copy of the application.
