Connecting to server in the Files app on iPhone

Hi!

I have recently bought an iPhone 14 and I am trying to connect to server the Files app. However, the message "There was a problem connecting to the server. Socket is not connected" appears constantly.

If someone has had the same problem, could you help me to solve it?

Connecting to server in the Files app on iPhone TLDR: find IPv4 from server and use smb:// REPLACE WITH YOUR IPv4 ADRESS For anyone who encountered the error "There was a problem connecting to the server. Socket is not connected" while trying to connect to a server with an iPhone, the way you connect to the server is bit different from mac. Assuming you have successfully enabled file sharing on your server side and/or connected to server successfully via mac, you have to figure out your IPv4 Address on your server ( in my case, i used command prompt with the keyword ipconfig and pressed enter to find my IPv4 Address). Once you have found out your IPv4, Use iPhone and click connect to server within files. Then enter the server address in this format smb://REPLACE WITH YOUR IPv4 ADRESS then press connect. then you can choose to access it as guest or registered user from the options. I have attached step by step method i used with images below: 1.Find the IPv4 with command prompt 2.Press connect to server 3.Enter the server adress with smb:// THE IPv4 Address that was found and press connect 4.Press connect and choose the way you wanna connect Hopefully that should solve the issue.

My iPhone crashes when I leave the Files app connected to a network drive When I use the "connect to server" option in the Files app to connect to a network drive, and then leave my phone connected (as I should be able to do), the phone will consistently crash at least once per day. It tends to happen when I leave my house, so presumably it relates to the effect of being disconnected from the LAN where the server is based. I think the issue relates to the fact that the Files app poorly handles a scenario where a file server is offline. When I connect to my file server, and later that server goes offline, the iPhone behaves like it is continually trying to connect to this server, and eventually the Files app will crash, which causes the whole iPhone to crash. The crash requires a hard reset to resolve.

I had this issue and then blindly stumbled into the solution. It may have been because I wasn't sharing any folders trying to connect. I set up a folder, putting a file in it, then Properties>Advanced Sharing>[ ]Share This Folder. Then back out a level to Share...>(Click on a name)>Done.

Or... maybe Apple could just not make sharing files wirelessly with a PC so Kafkaesque?
