I have a new iMac, does it include a VPN service or do I need to purchase?

I have AdBlock running but not VPN I have a message to purchase VPN. Did I have that included in my pkg when I first purchased this computer last November 2023?

In almost all cases adding third party VPN not only is completely unnecessary it results in the following:

  • Adds no additional level of security Mac OS does not already have internally.
  • Makes your Mac slow
  • Mac Mac OS appear buggy and unstable.

In short, please do not install any third party VPN apps unless your employer mandates you do and have them provide the VPN and support it.

Apple does include the ability for your Mac to be configured to support VPN connections, but it will depend on what type of VPN service you want to use. You also need to consider why you need to use a VPN altogether.

That is, will this be for:

  • Connecting to your workplace's VPN server?
  • For your Mac to connect to your home's VPN server when you are at a remote location?
  • For your Mac to connect to a commercial VPN service, like NordVPN?
