Alexa iPhone has to be launched multiple times to connect

I have an iPhone 6 Plus and up until a month or so ago the Alexa app was launching and connecting without a problem.

Since then I have to launch the app multiple times before it connects. When launched it just sits there with the areas where information would appear are greyed out. Have to close the app and re-launch it another 1 or two times (now up to 5 or 6 times) before it finally connects.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the APP and I have forced reset the iPhone.

Still does not connect on first try.

Any suggestions?
